I'm on it. Hugh Gower is now a member. He is the husband of our secretary Jo Gower. He preaches in Farmerville, LA and just downloaded the Redemption series.

Hi James, I'm getting a bunch of emails every day from MON. Everytime someone posts on a group I'm subscribed to I get an email. I guess the more emails I get the better the groups are working, which is great, but I'm wondering if there's a way to streamline this. My wife is part of a listserve that has the option of sending one email per day that lists all the updates. Something like that would be great...and stop my phone beeping!!

    Thanks for this ministry.

Hi James! I have not forgotten about the Spiritual Gifts survey. It's been a complete whirlwind for me these past couple of months with family stuff, working part-time away from home, and also preparing and training with LST for my Russia trip. It's all coming together and it's ALL in God's strong hands! I'll definitely take the survey when I get back home from Moscow. Thanks for your reminder! :)

Hi, James. We remember you from OC too. (JB had your dad for some of his engineering classes as well.)

Haslet is about an hour away from McKinney. Our claim to fame is that we are very close to the Texas Motor Speedway--for some people that is most impressive.

We are doing great--our children are now 4, 6, 8, and 10. God has blessed us beyond our wildest imaginations.

Jim Bob and I moved to this area when we left Edmond in 1999. He was at Lockheed Martin for 10 years and he is now working at Rockwell Collins in Richardson. Because of his commute we are considering a move east either toward a more central area like Coppell or all the way to the McKinney/Frisco area. Our house is on the market, and we are waiting for the Lord to reveal his plans for our family. As a matter of fact, that is how I found this site. I was searching the www for potential church homes for us when we more. We are currently worshiping at the Heritage church of Christ and consider that church family one of our greatest blessings.

Who knows, maybe we will be seeing you soon.

    Blessings,
    Dana

James sorry for just getting back with you regarding the question that i asked. Thanks for your response. I am still studying that and definitely in prayer as I study.

Thank you it is good to be back.

I thought the mission alive lab was great. I went to the theology lab in March with one of my elders and to the strategy lab this time with a different elder. Both times I was thrilled to have an elder with me. A lot of the value was the time I got to spend with each of these men. We are at a crossroads as a congregation and I am thankful for all the help I can get. We have spent over three years changing our theology to missional theology but now we face the challenge of missional living in a bigger way than we have yet.
Not much good is said around here about our governor.
  • Charles Kiser

Thanks, James. Love your series on the Office at High Pointe. Brilliant.
  • Paula White

It was no big deal. If I remember correctly, I got me something to drink and since I wasn't quite finished with the book, I read a couple of chapters and enjoyed my alone time. It's summer.....
  • Charles Kiser

I think it's so relevant and connects well to people who are trying to live their lives on mission in the midst of their (non-church) jobs. I think ministers often feel ill-equipped to address or even have awareness of issues in the workplace because they work in a Christian bubble of sorts. I think the overarching message of the Office series to many working people is probably: "hey, the gospel has something to do with all of my life - not just my participation in a religious service on the weekends." So for that reason - brilliant.
How did you go about discerning issues in the workplace for the series?
  • Hobby Chapin

James, I hope to keep posting soon. Have been swamped lately. I'm not holding to my commitment very well, so please forgive me.

Thanks for the welcome, I will get to everything eventually. Mike is a dear freind and has such a wonderful family. I will miss him here at World Radio but we will continue to work together through Genesis Alliance and WR. Thanks Again!
  • Carolyn Jo Gower

My husband is a preacher and we lived in Arkansas I believe the same time Mike and his family did. My husband, Hugh, and I think so much of them. So I was thrilled when he came to work at World Radio. So sorry he is leaving but I am so happy for him.

Hello James! I just e-mailed you something, I hope you get it. God Bless!
  • Philip Larbi Adjei

Thank you James for welcoming me.
  • Chris Chappotin

Howdy friend. It was a pleasure...thanks for the opportunity.

I am currently in the middle of the 2nd week of a 3-week paternity/sabbatical leave and will not preach again until September 6. On that Sunday, I'll begin a 13-week series through Revelation.
  • Chris Flores

This is so funny that you ask this, because the next two Sundays are going to be different for us. Basically we are going unplugged, but not by choice. What I mean unplugged is, we will not be meeting in the school cafeteria, but outside in the covered play area. There is not any power out there so we will not have any powerpoint. So Im having to select songs that we really know well. I do have some books I made with sheet music, but most of the members there, the newer ones aren't use to sheet music so I am not sure how they will do with that. I should have made a book with just lyrics, I am thinking they would do better with that. Tomorrow will be a learning experience for sure. Im actually picking them now as we speak....first week on a new job...yep I got a job....so I had to put it off with all the adjustments Ive had to make this week. Im looking at doing 5 songs we know pretty well. Shout Hallelujah, At the Name of Jesus, Clap Your Hands, How Great Is Our God, and I will Never Be the Same Again as the first set, and our send off song will probably be We are the Body of Christ....it'll be interesting to see if the body needs the music or not! LOL. Were you just curious?
  • Binh Turner

    hey James
thanks for the hello message. Yes I'm a friend of Jason but not on his mission team. Jason came to Australia many years ago and reached out to us in our small congregation and he was the first missionary in a long long while to come and want to spend time with us. I'm so grateful to his encouragement.

    My story:
    - grew up in NE Mississippi (Fulton, MS) in churches of Christ
    - married my wife, Kristy, in 1996. we have a daughter, Holley (11) and son, Drew (4)
    - 12 years at Magnolia Bible College in central MS (admissions, fundraising, event planning, financial aid, Chief Administrative Officer)
    - BA in Bible from MBC; 15 hrs in Leadership & Mgt from Amridge U
    - came to National Park Church in Jan 2008 (www.nationalparkchurch.org) for first preaching gig

I was heavily influenced by church growth model and trained in full-on evangelistic techniques. I didn't run across the idea of "missional" until about 2005 with McLaren's A New Kind of Christian and conversations with friends who were reading others. I am very interested in learning how to help my church have a missional DNA.
  • Jon Mark Smith

    Hey James!
Thanks for this site. I grew up in Coppell (not too far from McKinney) but now I preach in McGregor (west of Waco by about 15 minutes).
We've got some friends from Southaven, MS that worship with you...I know it is a big place...but if you happen to know Will and Suellen Delaughter please hug them for us. I was their worship and involvement minister (and their neighbor) in Southaven.

John Dobbs...fellow alumnus and friend from Magnolia Bible College...along with Allen Coker who was a roommate and fellow employee of mine. Actually, Allen was my boss at MBC for a time, but I won't go into that! Ha!

    Missional things...
I feel as though missional ideas have always been a small part of my personal fabric. I'm not saying I've understood those ideas, nor am I saying that I've acted on mission at every turn in my life...I'm just trying to say that I was taught early in my life about the importance of relationships and can now look back and see how heavily mission and relationship should be tied together. When I was asked to be the Involvement Minister at the last church I worked with, I began to study, read and understand that real involvement isn't nearly as programized as it is created in one-on-one, family relationships. I now realize how difficult it can be if the system that exists is not nearly as interested in mission as they are in keeping folks busy and entertained. I'd like to grow in my understanding of how to bring those two ideas together and bridge that gap so that reaching the lost in our world won't be viewed as something we MUST DO, but instead be viewed as something we LIVE TO DO.
  • Allen Coker

I'm reading Hirsch right now. Thanks forthe other recommendation. I will definitely check it out.
  • Jason Michael Retherford

thanks for the tips. i hope to be using and perusing, sharing and participating more here! looking forward to it.
  • Chris Leake

Thanks for the welcome! I'm in an indigenous part of Mexico doing church planting work. I have a particular interest in the least-reached of the world.

    Glad to be on board!
  • William Lloyd Cain

In response to James' inquiry about my interest in missions and this website . . . I'm a retired minister and currently serve as an elder for the Hendersonville (NC) Church of Christ. We have an active missions program so this is something that is always of interest to me and my fellow elders. Plus, about four years ago I got a taste of overseas missions by spending a month in Cambodia. I'll nevef forget it. Just pray that what I did there was helpful.
God bless. BTW, I usually go by my middle name - Lloyd. But I really don't care what you call me as long as it's printable.
  • Chris Altrock

James, great job on the website. Nice resource and wonderful network.
  • THOMAS DELBERT DUFFY, JR.

    HELLO,

MY NAME IS THOMAS DUFFY, I HAVE A DESIRE TO FORM A GROUP OF MINISTRIES TOGETHER, WITH ALL THEIR SPECIALTIES AND FORGE THEM IN A WAY THAT THEY CAN HELP EACH OTHER AND STILL REMAIN FOCUSED ON THEIR MINISTRY.
  • Angela Zimmerman

Hi James! Yes, I do have an interest in praying for the countries in the 10/40 window. Unfortunately, I've not updated the site in awhile, but plan to do that this weekend. I'm still trying to determine if I should continue with the yahoo groups method (which requires "membership") or simply putting the information on my blog page. I'm leaning toward the latter, but will most likely do both. The prayer focus beginning the week of September 6 is Gaza Strip. This is the group link: http://www.1040prayers.com and my blog http://www.onebrighthour.com Thanks for asking!
  • Trey Finley

Hi, James--I hope your Labor Day was restful. Mine was a blessing--lots of kids playing, good food, and family laughter.

As part of the 8-week class I'm doing at Highland Oaks, I'll be using my MON page as the place for a discussion board on questions asked in the class. It's a first run on this idea, so I'm sure I'll learn plenty on how to do it

I'm also beginning a small group this Sunday night at our home based on The Tangible Kingdom and its small group curriculum. Looking forward to experiencing that.
  • Marla Finley

Hi, James! Thanks for all that you do here. Trey is my fantastic husband.
  • Ann Dunagan

    Hello James!

How do we add the twitter and facebook status updates here on the Missional Outreach Network? My twitter name is AnnDunagan and that's also my name on facebook.

    Ann
  • Ann Dunagan

Thanks James. Keep me in the loop when that option is available.
  • Trey Finley

Hi, James. Class started well last week. I'll continue trying to generate discussion during the week. I'll probably need to communicate more extensively with the class this week to encourage them to come discuss. This week--asking the question of whether or not we are sent in order to call people to Christian community.
  • Amziah Christman

Hey James. I have been thinking (again) The next time I visit home (Dallas) I am going to come and worship with you guys. I need to meet you again. Much love for you and the network
  • Trey Finley

Just took a peek at Zorap very briefly. Looks really interesting. I'd like to see it demonstrated. Got any events coming up?
  • Trey Finley

Hi, James. The short answer is "yes, of course." The longer answer is that I'll need to return to this in a couple of weeks. I'm traveling part of next week and then preparing for coaching courses to begin the first of October.
  • Genny Cox

We are doing fine, and the congregation is doing well also. We miss you guys and hope you're doing well also.

  • Alex Murashko Jr

My main mission is to use the skills God has blessed me with to do His work. I met Angela on Facebook first I believe...then various other social network sites.
  • Bill James

I have logged several times and decided to join. Have a good day.
  • Jason Stiegelmeyer

Thanks. Same to you. Glad to have you as a connection. Our little organic neighborhood church meets just a block south of McKinney North, so we are right close by you guys. From your tweets, I can tell you have a heart for being the church in our community. We share that heart. There may be some good ways to partner up. I can definitely see us partnering up working with Samaritan Inn and maybe Habitat for Humanity type projects. Would love to discuss...
