How globalization is affecting the spread of the gospel

I just finished reading GloboChrist: The Great Commission Takes a Postmodern Turn by Carl Raschke. It is a very interesting book that, among other things, explores the impact of globalization on the spread of the gospel.

Globalization has been received in various ways. Trade unions are against it, and… Continue

See photo above. It's my son Devon and his teacher.

Today was the first day of school for Devon. He's started 3rd grade today. It was the first time that I met his teacher. I was only at Devon's school for just a few minutes this morning. I quickly noticed that Devon's teacher made everyone FEEL important,… Continue

We still need some more volunteers, so there's room for YOU. Just let me know your wishes. You need not be a Bible scholar to participate in FriendSpeak. Just a willingness to share yourself and the story of Jesus with a new friend.

Twitter and TweetUp Brings Wiccan To Church

Last month, Pastor Steve Shears of Current Church in Ormond Beach, FL came to a tweetup (a gathering of people who are on twitter).

At this tweetup he met Kelly (she goes by @PaganKelly on Twitter). Her profile on Twitter states that she is a “Wiccan”.

After the tweetup, Steve (@steveshears), his wife Rachel (@rachelshears) and fellow Christ Follower Ben Boles (@btotheetothen) began communicating with Kelly through Twitter.

Yesterday, Kelly and Pastor Steve’s… Continue

Secret Killers

Often, fornication is not committed openly it is often committed in the secret. Nothing destroys the inner being as much as fornication does. Nothing hinders plans for greatness like it. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body, but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his body. What? Know ye not that you are the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God and ye are not your own? (I Cor. 6:18-19). Samson lost the anointing through immorality.

Great men… Continue

Low Tech Evangelism

The church I attend and haven't been kicked out of yet, www.firstchurchpo.org, is doing a big community party this coming Sunday. Some nutty person from the church thought it would be a great idea to GO to the homes surrounding the church and personally invite people to the event. After church yesterday, my son Devon and I took to the streets with invitations to the event. We knocked on doors. We rang doorbells. The 3rd home we walked up to had… Continue

Evangelism

Soul wining is the most fundamental thing in the church i believe. In age I'm very young and never work anywhere but in different churches of Christ as a preacher, and teacher in the Bible school. It is fulfilling seen people repenting serving the Lord. I was born in the village in South Africa Venda homeland. The church of Christ is big and growing very fast there. There is more than 55 congregations. The reason why is growing is not because Vendas there peaceful people as many people say in… Continue

Irony of Owning Your Own Business...

Five years ago I started dreaming about owning my own business. Just about anyone who has been in Corporate America long enough has thought to themselves, if only I was in charge. Well, I decided to make the jump. I left my position in middle management for a Fortune 500 Company and used my life savings at the time to invest in a franchise. I had done it!

I had done it alright! Three months into the small business I had gone through most of my working capital and was facing the real… Continue

Commun....

Ever noticed that most words that start with C-O-M-M-U-N- - - end up being bad words? Communism...nasty word. Communicable...eeeewwwwww. And the worst of all...COMMUNICATE. Wait a sec...that's a good one, isn't it? So, why do we treat the process of communication as if it is tantamount to sin? I can't believe I just used the word "tantamount". Anyway, here's what I mean: Open dialogue about difficult and controversial subjects = ministry suicide / speaking openly about gossip - sin - etc.… Continue

unity

A) Jesus pray for Unity : Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;

That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent… Continue

I Kill People

I've killed people with my tongue. I've used gossip to hurt others. I did it today and I knew I was doing it. Gossip is so tasty when it's pouring out of my mouth. It's strange that I would gossip about others when my family and I have been hurt by gossip. Here is a good reminder below from God's word when I'm getting ready to start spewing gossip from my flapping lips.

Don't bad-mouth each other, friends. It's God's Word, his Message, his Royal Rule, that takes a beating in that…

Give and Share without Taking = Success

I am a large, un-hip 48 year old guy. I have been involved with “marketing and promotion” since I was 19 years old. I am not an extremely intelligent guy. I barely made it through high school and I partied my way through college. I didn’t walk out with a degree but I did become an expert at drinking beer. At first, this whole social media marketing thing seemed a bit overwhelming. Why? I’m the dude voted most likely to think that “The Dukes of Hazzard” was a documentary. I just learned to use a… Continue

The Daily Dealings

Wow. How often it seems that my heart is distracted from God's mission in my life (and in this church) all because of the drama that is life. I'm distracted. Financial worries...Marital woes...numerous jobs...many varying tasks to perform...time with children...lost loved ones...relational tension showing up in places I've never seen it...I'm distracted.

It seems as though once you've gotten to this point of distraction, you tend to unplug (at least for a season) from some aspect of… Continue

Is Christianity a movement or an institution? Lessons from the Health Care Debate

There has been much talk about those who have shown up to "tea parties" and town halls to protest government spending and the current health care bills. Principally, the question has been, is this a genuine grass roots movement? Or are these merely events manufactured by political groups.

I'm sure that there are elements of both. But for my part, I see people who have never gone to political functions going to them. I don't condone… Continue
