Dr. Anthony Wood, D.Min, is a partner in ministry at River City (www.rivercityministry.org) in North Little Rock, AR. In December he started working with the Remmel Church of Christ on weekends to plant an inner city ministry in Newport, AR. Soon after his arrival in Newport he was asked by one of the sisters, Cindy, if he would visit with a young man who had been in her sphere of influence for ten years. He had attended services at Remmel on several occasions. She had even taken him to the baptistry to show him what it was all about.
Anthony and Lisa (Anthony's wife) visited with the young man and after one visit he was baptized. Cindy was perplexed. "How did you do that?," was her question! Dr. Wood responded, "I just asked if he wanted to be baptized."
Cindy walked away in comteplation. Coming back later she said, "You know, that's something I never did. I never asked."
In December the congregation I attend has a Breakfast with Santa to reach out to the poor and underpriviledged of our community. Thirty families were in attendance. In January a brother was concerned about the follow-up on these 30 families and decided to contact them individually to see if they would like to study the Bible. He made three calls and got two Bible study appointments. He just asked! Upon sharing this the small group that gathered to equip others for evangelism decided to make calls to the other twenty plus, and, you have probably guessed, got several more Bible study appointments. They just asked.
How many times have we prayed for God to open doors for us to share the gospel but we failed to ask when the opportunity presented itself?
Just ask.
