On Sunday, we had a worship time entitled, "Devoting Ourselves to Prayer." This was a part of the Christ-Centered Community which I currently am preaching on, as found partly in Acts 2:42.
We had 10 very specific targeted prayers throughout the service which people could respond to ( I did not have a regular sermon, but had a 30 sec-1 minute thought that I shared with each prayer topic.) People could come down front, or they could go to the back of the auditorium where many of our elders and their wives, and other couples that were recruited were there to pray with and for those who came forward.
So we had little prayer groups going on all through the service. The lights were turned down, but you could tell that people were praying. This multi-movement type of service is very postmodern.
I planned this and told elders & wives and the other couples who were ready to pray with people that we could have one person respond or twenty.
We probably had nearly 100 people pray or be prayed for at a very personal level on Sunday. Praise God!
Here are two documents that we used and shared with those who were helping. Thank you for all of your love and support! Devoted to Prayer Worship Service (3-14-10).doc.pdf Devoted to Prayer Worship Service (3-14-10).docHow can we make prayer a more meaningful experience in our assemblies?
