In case you missed the Twitter post I made on this, check out the post Jesus is my (Facebook) Friend. There is someone on Facebook who has given themselves the name Jesus Nazareth. Which shows how easy it is to assume any identity online. I mean, I was almost fooled into thinking this really was Jesus of Nazareth. :)
Well, when Jesus Nazareth added the author as a friend, it said, “Jesus added you as a friend on Facebook. We need to confirm that you know Jesus in order for you to be friends on Facebook.”

To anyone familiar with Facebook, this is pretty funny. It also brings up several good questions:

How are Facebook friends and real friends the same or different?
Do we really know Jesus? Are we really his friends?
Is our relationship with Jesus akin to a real friendship, or is it closer to a Facebook friendship?
What do you think of these questions?

Oh, you did NOT just ask me those questions!
You know this website only allows 2,000 character answers!

Regardless, I love to list Jesus as my friend on FB. My only concern is that is took Him 3 days to confirm me as a friend.
I would love to overload FB with friend requests. Whoever started this should be overwhelmed with requests. I know there will be those who abuse this opportunity, but I'm watching to see how the world responds.
Facebook friends and real friends the same bc they fulfill a need for companionship and interaction with other humans. They're different bc sometimes it just feels good to hang out with a friend. In the same room, watching the same movie, eating the same guacamole.
The fun thing about FB friends is that you can talk to them any time of the day or night without interrupting their busy schedule or yours. However if I try to call a friend on the phone at 9:30 p.m. bc I'm done putting my kids in bed, she might still be in the middle of putting hers in bed. then I've just made her night even more hectic. But if I talk to her on Facebook, she can answer me whenever she's not busy any more.
What do you think of these questions? I think you're trying to bait me into saying something you can make a snappy comeback to. :) :) :)

Hmmm...neither one of those describes my relationship with Jesus, the way I see it. Maybe God, Jesus, Spirit are more rolled into one in my mind than the way other people think. I don't really think of Him as "friend" but I don't mean that in a bad way. I think of Him more as my most loved and trusted parent. I trust Him more than any person I know.
Kind-of like if you could roll my Mom and Dad all into one being, leaving only their good points and deleting anything untrustworthy...that's like God...except even better than that.
I guess "friend" to me sounds like too much of a "peer" relationship, when what I really think I am is His beloved child. And I'm SO lucky to have such an awesome Dad.
