Introduction
Hey Everyone! I thought I would post an introduction though I'm not sure this is posted in the right place. Oh well...here goes.
My name is Kyle Stephens. I am originally from a small town in west Tennessee - Springville, TN. I am the older son of a minister and a banker. My father has been the minister of the Sulphur Well Church for the past 30+ years as well as a cattle farmer. My mother has been in the banking industry for the past 30 years and is currently the branch manager for a local bank. I have one younger brother who is an engineer in Denver, CO. I attended Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN where I played basketball for four years and majored in Biblical Studies and Biology/Premed. Upon completion of undergrad I stayed an extra year to work on a graduate degree in ministry. At the end of that year I transferred to Abilene Christian University where I completed my M.Div in 2005. While at Abilene I met my wife and we now have two little boys (2 yrs & 7 months) who are the joy of our lives. Upon completion of the M.Div., I entered medical school in Kansas City, MO. I am currently a 4th year medical student pursuiing a career in orthopedic surgery and slated to begin residency next summer (2009).
As my bio probably suggests, my two passions are ministry and medicine and their intersection. I was introduced to missional theology at ACU and it has shaped my thinking in untold ways since. Though I am not certain of what lies ahead in terms of my life's ministry, I know that bringing the good news of the kingdom of God through medicine is a big part of it. I enjoy discussions of social justice, both domestic and international, and plan to engage both for as many years as God allows. For now, the demands on my time are great and thus my family and my studies are my priorities. Missional theology fascinates me and I look forward to any discussions and/or relationships developed on this site.
Let the conversation continue...
