A young man came into our office today named Orlando Fuller. He lost his job as a mechanic five months ago and is about to run out of unemployment insurance. So, while he struggled a bit in seeking out help, he said that he decided to swallow his pride and he came to us asking for food. The word is out in the community that High Pointe helps people who are hungry through our food pantry ministry.
Linda Hardin, who runs this ministry, came and got me when Orlando came in. She could tell what I too noticed right away, that Orlando was a very nice young man who had a very open heart and a heart for God. I asked him about his family. He has a fiancée, Erika, who has a job at MetLife, and a 4 year old daughter named Jasmin. I prayed with him, and then I asked him if I could tell his story. He said sure. I also said that I would pass on that he was looking for mechanic work. If anyone can help Orlando find a mechanic job, please let us know.
I really was blessed by this young man, for he talked throughout about having faith and trust in God through this difficult time. When we serve others, we really are the ones blessed just as much or more than them.
Jesus said, "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and give his life as a ransom for many."
You want to take your mind off of your problems? Reach out and serve others like Orlando, and we will be imitators of Christ and receive the blessings of his kingdom. Thank you, Orlando, for touching us with your love. And thank you, High Pointe, for helping us serve people like Orlando.
How have you been uplifted by serving others?
