What are "Rules of Engagement?"
From Answers.com: "A directive issued by competent military authority that delineates the limitations and circumstances under which forces will initiate and prosecute combat engagement with other forces encountered."
Given that definition, I pose the following for MROE "Missional Rules of Engagement" : A directive or set of directives issued by the Ultimate Authority that delineates the expectations and circumstances under which God's people will incarnate and pattern Christ's love in the engagement of others. What do you think of my definition?
Of course there are seasons and stations in our lives and those we come in contact with, there are cultures and sub-cultures that we need to be sensitive to, and there a situations which could nullify any proposed rules. So, MROE's need to be biblical, adaptable, and doable.
Now the challenge for my missional friends: What would be one MROE, "Missional Rule of Engagement," would be at the top of your list? Let's collectively make a running list in the comment section.
I will start it off with one of the most difficult for me - Philippians 2:3:
"Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves." NLT
