Here is a shocking news article:
California School District cancels fundraiser selling memorial bric...
"Officials at a California school district cancelled a fundraising programme selling memorial bricks after two women submitted theirs with printed bible verses. Lou Ann Hart, of Palm Desert, and Sheryl Caronna, of Rancho Mirage, purchased several bricks for $100 to $250, which were due to be installed in the walkways of Palm Desert High School. When they were told they could not use the bricks in the memorial because the content risked an unconstitutional establishment of religion, the two women filed a legal complaint against the district in an attempt to reverse the decision . . . "
It might be one thing if the school sought to prevent any religious bricks to be printed. But what is so disturbing is that, according to the article, "Hundreds of messages and quotes had been accepted for other bricks including ones with religious themes . . . One featured a quote from Mahatma Gandhi while another had Bible quotation: ‘Yes, it is possible,’ in Spanish."
So the school officials were perfectly fine with allowing religious quotes from other other religions. But when Christian quotes were submitted, rather than allow them along with the others, they cancelled the entire fundraiser and refunded the $45,000 that had been raised. As cash strapped as schools are right, this is shocking.
My friends, we need to wake up and realize that we are not in Kansas anymore. Laws--and our society at large--are increasingly becoming hostile to Christians and Christianity. In fact, I predict that 2012 may be the last major presidential election in which a presidential candidate runs on a strong moral platform. Things have changed dramatically in the last four years. A majority of Americans now support gay marriage. What will things be like in another four ways? Another eight? Sixteen?
Our kids are growing up in a dramatically different world. An unchurched, post-Christian world in which school officials, politicians, and the general public will increasingly be hostile to Christians. The solution? For the church to stop being inward focused, to reach out to others, to teach our kids how to navigate this world and be lights for Jesus, and to put our faith in the gospel, not laws, to transform our country and our world for Christ. Jesus had not a single senator, governor, or emperor on his side, but he turned the world upside down. The church is the body of Christ, and Christ's mission is our mission.
What do you think that the religious and political landscape will be like in four years? Eight? Sixteen? What does this story show?

My kids went to Palm Desert High
The School Principal who originally stopped the blocks mentioned here is no longer with the district
This is only one decision that was troubling
The way out of this for the district was to refund all the moneys collected
