Starting this Wed., our church will have four nights of "High Pointe in the Park," where we will go as a church into various settings where we can be with non-Christians. This Wednesday, we will have a small group of people go over to the
Samaritan Inn, ahomeless shelter in McKinney (and the only homeless shelter in Collin County).
The women who go will give "spa" treatments to the ladies of the shelter. Not really my area of expertise, but this includes nail treatments and the like. Also, one of our members who is a masseuse is going to give massages! We're looking at maybe something sports oriented with the guys, and some teens and adults to go and play with the children. Yes, these are families over there, and they have kids.
I am very glad to see that we have people who have a heart for those who have no home. Maybe a long lasting small group ministry could form out of this. That would be awesome! May we be a home for those in the Samaritan Inn by being Christ to them.
What do you think of this idea? What have you or your church done with homeless shelters?
