Tragic Shooting in Arizona kills six, including a 9 year girl and 76 year old Church of Christ member

Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and victims of the shooting in Arizona last night. Six were killed, including a little 9 year old girl, Christina Green. This LA Times article touchingly describes this wonderful little girl. She was kind, a good speaker, and she had just been elected on the student council of her elementary school.

Christina was born on September 11, 2001, and has featured in a book called, "Faces of Hope." She often had to be corrected by her parents when she told people that she was born on a "holiday."

Christina had been about to meet her congresswoman up on stage, which she was excited about, when she was shot. I have a 9 year old daughter, Gina, her age. What a tragedy.

Also killed in the shooting was Dorwan Stoddard, a 76 year old husband who died trying to protect his wife Mavy from the gunfire. The Stoddards were members of the Mountain View Church of Christ in Tucson. They helped build a cry room for the church as well as assisted in various other maintenance type of jobs.

What a heroic action for Dorwan to seek to protect his wife by throwing himself in the gunfire. Husbands are called to lay down their lives for their wives, just as Christ gave himself up for the church (Eph. 5:21f). In this case, Dorwan literally laid down his life due to this terrible shooting by a man who, by all accounts, was seriously mentally ill. What a hero.

What do you make of this senseless shooting? How can we help these families through and show them the love, blessings, and promises of Christ?

So sad to see this tragedies, so sad to know how this great nation needsGod.

The shooting at schools, in army camps, in public places and crime allover, the 3% atheist (9 millions plus) the right of abortion, the right of marriagebetween same sex, these are popular issues in our time, it is a signal of how urgent US needs to be One Nation Under God.

It is a mission that belongs to the Body of Christ. The church needs toget out or their comfort zone, (their houses and church builders) to take the powerful gospel of Jesus Christ to lost people. It’s not enough to preach and teach in aclass room. We need to be light in the dark places, where light is needed.  We must go where the lost people are.  We like to invite people to church services, but Jesus says to church, YOU GO where the lost people are.
