Twitter and TweetUp Brings Wiccan To Church

Last month, Pastor Steve Shears of Current Church in Ormond Beach, FL came to a tweetup (a gathering of people who are on twitter).

At this tweetup he met Kelly (she goes by @PaganKelly on Twitter). Her profile on Twitter states that she is a “Wiccan”.

After the tweetup, Steve (@steveshears), his wife Rachel (@rachelshears) and fellow Christ Follower Ben Boles (@btotheetothen) began communicating with Kelly through Twitter.

Yesterday, Kelly and Pastor Steve’s wife Rachel organized a familytweetup picnic for people on Twitter who have children.

Last night, Kelly came to Pastor Steve’s church in Ormond Beach, FL.

Mike, I learned about a similar type of connection, www.meetup.com, in my research on online social networking. The purpose of the site is for people to meet in person with others who have similar interests, hobbies, etc.

Last month I went to my first Meetup group, the Third Saturday Book Club in McKinney. It was great. I met some interesting new people and had meaningful conversation.

So, what is the best way/website for organizing or joining a local Tweetup?
