In this video, Hirsch says that consumerism is the alternative religion of our day to following Jesus. To create a Jesus movement you must create disciples. You cannot build a church on consumers. Amen!

By consumerism in culture, he means turning people into constant shoppers. By consumer Christianity, he means Christians that are very shallow. Rather than seeking to serve others, they are only looking for a church that provides them with the best religious goods and services. And if they don't find it, they'll move to another church. To consumer Christians, the church exists to serve them, rather than them seeing themselves as part of a people that exists for the world.

He may have a point, but I would like for him to have defined "Consumerism" so I could more clearly agree or disagree with him.
