@Apostle - Well, I am just not certain that a person has to be crying to be repentant. The word means literally to turn around. It does not mean feeling sad and sorry. On some level they may feel this, but not everyone has a high level of emotion.
@Apostle - Good thoughts. I do like NT Wright's take on repentance, however. It is about going a new way. While that will necessarily entail leaving sin, it is more than that. It is a positive going in a new direction. In a culture with little guilt or sin awareness, expecting people to be really emotionally mournful about their past may not be realistic. But they can see their way to a new way of life centered in Christ that is better for them.
