Saturday night we had a Men at the Cross event here in Monroe. (http://menatthecross.org). To tell you the truth I'm always a little hesitant about jumping in with these kind of things with a full endorsement ... but now that I participated I just wanted to say how great it was.

2000 men worshiped together at First Baptist West Monroe. The call was for discipleship, each mature man being a Paul and finding his Timothy. They provided excellent material to work with. I was very impressed. Here's why:

*The call was to pay attention to the Great Commission by each man loving another man enough to teach him about Jesus.

*Each man is to not only teach about Jesus, but teach his 'timothy' to tell others about Jesus.

*This is to take place in the local church - not in parachurch organizations.

*Entire communities can be transformed if Christian men will stand up for Christ by obeying His will and leading other men into this life.

Of course this call to discipleship isn't new, it's biblical. I think this takes Promise Keepers to a new level - a grass roots evangelism movement.

Have you had a Men at the Cross event in your locale? I encourage you to attend if you have a chance. It was great!

Very interesting, John. Sounds great! A Promise Keepers for Evangelism-love it.

It is good to see any kind of movement that focuses not upon one's self, but upon others.

I have not attended a Men at the Cross event, but I'll keep my eye out for this.

Thanks for sharing!
Here's the link to the One 2 Won discipleship material...which you can order or they give it away on their site:

Cool! Thanks for the link. Did they go through any of this material at the gathering you went to? How did it look to you?
No, they did not go over it, but I have looked at it pretty closely and it's good ... great discussion questions ... leaves an open door for talking about important things.

John, I actually went to one last week. I didn't know what it was and only went because my dad wanted to see Michael W. Smith. I like you am always a little weary of these type of group things. I liked the idea and the direction given. I actually had lunch with two guys today and we are working together on it. I asked two other guys to start working with some guys with this intent. We will see what happens.
