Saturday night we had a Men at the Cross event here in Monroe. (
http://menatthecross.org). To tell you the truth I'm always a little hesitant about jumping in with these kind of things with a full endorsement ... but now that I participated I just wanted to say how great it was.
2000 men worshiped together at First Baptist West Monroe. The call was for discipleship, each mature man being a Paul and finding his Timothy. They provided excellent material to work with. I was very impressed. Here's why:
*The call was to pay attention to the Great Commission by each man loving another man enough to teach him about Jesus.
*Each man is to not only teach about Jesus, but teach his 'timothy' to tell others about Jesus.
*This is to take place in the local church - not in parachurch organizations.
*Entire communities can be transformed if Christian men will stand up for Christ by obeying His will and leading other men into this life.
Of course this call to discipleship isn't new, it's biblical. I think this takes Promise Keepers to a new level - a grass roots evangelism movement.
Have you had a Men at the Cross event in your locale? I encourage you to attend if you have a chance. It was great!
