Deanna Christine Skiles has not received any gifts yet
I think I'm gonna try and get back into college. I'm feeling literary arts.
Surface-level:
I work at a circuit board design company, and i go to The Village church here in Dallas. I'm into live music and EDM, cars, and puppies. I'm a fan of dark beer, way too obsessed with artists like Deadmau5 and Boyce Avenue, and usually not afraid to dance if the music works. I live with a giant dog, two snakes, and three prissy fish. God has offset my intelligence with blatant, severe ADD to keep me from getting too snarky. =) I've been there, done that, and thrown away the T-shirt.
Beneath the Surface:
My entire existence is me trying to line myself up with Christ's path for me, and trying to discover more of the nature and character of God.
I fall often, I suck at being obedient, I easily lose sight of my limitedness versus His unlimitedness, and I easily forget to observe Scripture through the lens of a metanarrative.
But despite my screw-ups - and even in my obedience - Christ has made me worthy before God so that I am perfect in his sight by no actions of my own. Even being able to believe in Him is part of his gift of grace to me, and I never want to go back to trying to do life on my own.
I am coming to terms with the idea that God will move me further out of my comfort zone to missionally bring Him glory... That idea was impossible for me to get my head around until I started actually understanding who God is, not just what He does. My lacking of awesomeness is my fountain of joy in Him - because his sovereignty and his loving grace surpass my limited existence.
"And the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. ...And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
"What shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died - more than that, who was raised - who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
"...No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

I don't care whose toes I step on with this, but men like the one discussed in this quick clip just absolutely stir up more rage in me than I thought I was capable of, which I confess to you now. I think Driscoll leaves several points unsaid when discussing the faults in the "prosperity gospel" however this is worth thinking on... how on earth can we be the light to the world when we are chasing the same things the world chases "in the name of Jeeee-zus" and how can we ignore so much of…

Thought I'd share this to benefit everyone here. I'm not a leader but it helped me.
I had to download the video in order to watch it, but the audio and transcript are also posted.

Just wanted to throw out this quote from C. S. Lewis' book The Weight of Glory:
"Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what…

All I have to say is that I have not been more marked by the Scriptures or more convicted of my idols and shortcomings than when I walked through this book.
I can't begin to unpack all of it. To more understand the depth of what I'm saying and to hear the journey (mp3's, transcripts and study guides) go to http://fm.thevillagechurch.net/sermons and start with The Angst of Waiting (12/19/2010) and then go on to Parts 1 through 11…
