Here goes, Highland Oaks friends...

In Bible class today, I described two activities you could choose from this week to step outside of our "sheltered" Christian lifestyle and invite others to come with us.

1) Find a friend who doesn't know Jesus. Ask him/her how you could pray for them. Pray on the spot. Then, with their permission, take it to the prayer team at Highland Oaks and ask them to add this request to the prayer list. You can reach either Donna King or Diane Packer through Facebook or the church office.

For the slightly more daring...

2) Look for community activities that fit at least one of the following descriptions: culturally diverse, service oriented, or interfaith. Here's the catch--they cannot be sponsored by Highland Oaks AND you have to be willing to go to this event and invite others to come with you. Call the church office and ask for the event to be placed on the calendar in the church bulletin with your contact information for people who'd like to join you.

When you're done, come back here and tell us about your experience--good, bad, happy, sad, strange, surprising, whatever. I want to hear about it.

Amy, what a great response! Who knows what God will do if we are obedient and say, Use me, God, to reach someone. Thanks for sharing. I've said a prayer for your friend.

Trey,
Kinsey and I want to join you and your family at the Greek Festival. That sounds awesome! I like Greek food and culture, but it's been several years since I've attended one of the Greek Festivals. They are always fun! I'll invite some friends from school to come too. We'll see if it works with their schedule.

This morning I e-mailed a friend that I knew from school, but hadn't talked to in several months. I know from previous conversations that he considers himself "religious" but is opposed to organized religion and embraces selected aspects of many different religions. We caught up on life and then I asked if I could pray for him and his family. He gave a resounding "Yes!" and proceeded so share some additional concerns that were on his heart. I expected him to be open to me praying, but was surprised by his passionate response. I'll be praying for his concerns and ask the prayer team to pray too.

Trey, I love the challenge and will be very interested in hearing about people's experiences.

Here goes...I'll be calling the church office to post the following event on the church calendar...

September 26th is the Greek Food Festival of Dallas at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. We'll be there between 5:30 and 7:00. Bring an empty stomach and there's plenty of the activities for the kids to do, too. You can check it out at www.greekfestivalofdallas.com.
