Sending Passages in the Gospel of John

Below are most all of the passage in John that use the word "sent." I have included all those referring to Jesus, with a few that refer to John the Baptist. (Thank you to www.Biblegateway.com for help with this.) Missio means "to send," and thus being missional is about being "sent" into the world to take up the mission of Christ.

Clearly, the sheer number of times "sent" is used in John shows the significance of this concept to this gospel writer. The last reference to "sent" is found in that most seminal of sending passages, John 20:21: "As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." Absolutely! One of the many, many wonders encapsulated within the Bible.

It is just such a pity that this message is not continually preached from the pulpits - commissioning of believers! I don't know why?

As you say above... we are all (supposed to be) on a Mission!

Is it too radical? Are the Pastors / Ministers afraid to mobilise their flock?

Frank, I'm glad that you found this post helpful. It is amazing how prominent this sending theme is in John, isn't it?

Thank you James... this is profound!

In my opinion its all a progression starting with the transcending and restorative love of God the Father - John the Baptist sent to prepare the way - the commissioning and mission of Jesus - the commissioning and mission of the disciple (follower of Jesus Christ) through the power of the Holy Spirit (John 20:21).

Straight forward!
