Sharing the Gospel--It is more than words

Above is a video from John Dickson, author of The Best Kept Secret of Christian Mission. In this video and book, Dickson talks about how sharing the gospel involves more than words and "presentations." Christians can help spread the gospel through prayer, service, and a wide range of activities. I'm just now going through this book, but I like the premise. It fits well into the idea of each person using his or her spiritual gifts to serve others and engage in God's mission.

 

Typical evangelicalism has often reduced the gospel down to a presentation, and some have downplayed service and "social action." The strongest forms of evangelism combine service with a spoken message. Some people will respond to a "presentation," but usually only after a relationship has been built. Even then, an "invitation to a journey" is a better way to share the gospel for most people. We invite, encourage, ask, etc. people to join us in our journey to Jesus.

 

Still, I think the problem with most Christians that I know in this area is not overly relying upon a presentation form of the gospel. It is failing to talk about their faith at all with non-Christians, and a failure to pro-actively serve them.

 

What are your thoughts? Which is a bigger failure today--overlying of gospel presentations, failing to talk about one's faith, or failing to serve non-Christians?

Failing to serve non-Christians is a way of failing to share your faith. If you do not serve them how can you share?
