The Cortez/Garza family has lost their home and all their possesions in a fire. They have come to us for help. Please bring any extra furniture/household items that you might have to the building between August 9 (after church) and Wednesday Aug. 12 before 10:30 a.m. They also have a 4 four year old girl, and a 9 year old boy. So, any childrens clothes and toys for that age group would also be wonderful. The boy told me specifically that his skateboard was damaged.....so if anyone has a skateboard to give, you would make his day!

On another note.....our Clothes Closet regulars have started also bringing in donations! It's nice to see that people who have so little, are still happy to help others! :)

Thank you, Dalana, for sharing this. I'll add this to the church's website as well. That is so sad about the fire. Is this someone who has come to us before? If not, how did they hear about us?

I hope we find a skateboard, in addition to furniture!

No they are new. I'll find out how they heard about us. I was going to call them today.

Hey there...what sort of stuff did you not get for the Cortez/Garza family that you still need???

Chris,
as far as I know, they lost everything. They are staying with friends. Right now they have no place to store items, but are not refusing anything, because they do not know what their situation will become. They only expect to get about 20,000 for their house, so they wont be able to rebuild. I think they are looking into buying a mobile home. They have recieved thus far: a televison, desk and chair, dishwasher, oven, one set of sheets and a blanket, and a dining table with 6 chairs.

It is an extended family: grandparents, parents, one teenage daughter, 9 yr old boy, and four year old girl.
