It is hard to believe that 2011 is almost upon us. I thought that by 2011 we would all be flying around in cars and wearing those metallic jump suits. Looks like technology still has a ways to go.
I will be gone on Jan. 2, out of town. But I'm still thinking about preaching a "New Year's" sermon, challenging the church to . . . still to be determined. I saw this great web page from Granger Community Church on giving for the new year.
So, what will you be challenging your church to do in the coming year? Please share!

I'm working on a project called "Kingdom-Focused Families" - It's a parenting class -- that I hope to do as an outreach, to get unchurched families in the door -- both friends of our church members, and unchurched families. My heart is to introduce families to Jesus and God's principles for effective parenting -- to help them to THRIVE with God's life as He intended, based on the words, "Thy Kingdom Come" from the LORD'S PRAYER -- 7 Parenting Keys for Thriving as a Christian Family" -- we want to do radio ads and newspaper ads. My heart is to reach families with maybe some "church" or religious background, but who've maybe been out of church for a long time . . . but now with kids, these parents realize their kids could use some help. I'm hoping it will be a book too. LORD WILLING. We always are encouraging our church about missions and orphans too -- this year our big new thrust will be PROJECT INDIA (in SE India, led by our newly married son and his bride, who are also starting a local outreach called REACH OUT -- with regular weekly evangelism and street outreach. So cool.
Our church will be building an addition 20+ years in the planning and saving. Praise God! To accomplish that we'll be asking our members to donate $30k worth of labour over the next 6-8 months.
The only way we can motivate such generosity of time and money is by looking beyond our walls to the needs of the community around us.
Next Sunday I'm leading a new focus group to improve how we welcome guests to our worship services (we get quite a few from the neighbourhood).
Having addressed the needs of "home base" I hope that by the end of the year we will be exploring ways to involve ourselves in the community more.
Our congregational theme for 2011 is "Love & Rescue".
Okay, it's not super missional... but we're getting there. :-)
