Do you believe God?

I’m sure some of you have heard of Beth Moore. Right now I’m reading her daily devotional book “Believing God Day by Day.” The first day I started reading it she posed a question that really stuck with me. It was, “Do you believe God?” Now let me clarify. As Christians, we all spend a lot of time talking about our “Belief” or how we “Believe in Christ” or “Believe in God.” As parents, we teach our children to “believe in God.” In Sunday school we focus on verses such as “…believe in the One who sent Me.” Do you see the difference yet? We spend a lot of time discussing how we believe IN God, but do we just simply believe God? God has promised us many things throughout His word. We can believe IN Him all we want, but until we simply believe what He says, He cannot really act in our life like He wants. In Matthew 21:22 God tells us, “…ask all things in prayer BELIEVING you will receive.”

I know because of a recent event in my life, I had quit asking God for something. Why did I do that? Well, it was because I thought God knew best and therefore He was going to do what He wanted anyways. But in reality, I was afraid to ask because I was terrified He would let me down….What is that????

God has told us He loves us. He has told us to not be afraid, that He will take care of all our needs. He has told us that while we do have a yoke, that it is light. He tells us He is the Great Comforter, the Great Physician, that He offers us unconditional love. I looked at all the verses that spoke to believing God. I challenge you to do the same thing. Look at all the verses that refer to just believing God…..not in God…just believing God. Look at what happened in the lives of the people who did. Yes, we need to believe in God, but we need to allow Him to do all that He wants and can do in our lives if we just believe Him.

Wow, Deb, what a great thought. We are taught all our lives to believe in God, but that is different than believing what He says and acting on that. I think that all of us have experienced what you did in stopping asking God for something because He might let us down, though we might not admit it. Thanks for the encouragement to believe God and His promises. He has ALWAYS honored His promises.
