About Josh

I am a licensed marital and family therapist (LMFT) in Oklahoma. I have a private practice in NW OKC where I provide therapeutic services for individuals, couples, and families. Although my strongest strengths lie in the areas of communication & conflict resolution, rebuilding relationships after infidelity, parenting & parent-child relational issues, and overcoming pornography addiction, my expertise cover a wide-array of personal and relational issues.

In addition to my private practice, I also serve as the college minister at the Wilshire Church of Christ in OKC. I thoroughly enjoyed my college years at Oklahoma Christian University (OC), so working with this group brings back lots of pleasant memories. My goal is to encourage and nourish their Spirit as they carve out for themselves a place as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I have been happily married since Dec. 2000 to my lovely wife, Amanda. We met and married while working on our undergraduate degrees at OC. We left there to move to Stillwater to work on our graduate degrees at Oklahoma State University. I obtained a Master's degree in Marriage & Family Therapy; and Amanda received her Ph.D. in Chemistry. She is currently a chemistry professor at OC. We live in the OKC metro area with our sons, Casen and Liam.

Someone once said to me that your family should be your first ministry. I truly believe that to be effective "out in the field," we've got to be taking care of things at home. Hal Runkel, in his book ScreamFree Parenting, states that we must learn to put on our own oxygen masks first, because if we can't breathe, we can't help anybody. Therefore, my prayer is that each and everyone of us learn to take care of ourselves and our families so that we can be effective stewards of the Word. I hope this group will be yet another resource to help you do just that.

You can learn more about me and what's on my mind through my website and my blog.

I'm glad my dad didn't talk about this. Talk about an awkward conversation!

Wow, James. Nice article. Makes you think. All I will say on this matter is something James Dobson said his father told him (from book Bringing Up Boys). His father told him, "I hope you don't feel the need to engage in this act......but if you do, you shouldn't be too concerned about it. I don't believe it has much to do with your relationship with God."

Here is a Newsweek article entitled, "The Scientific Case for Masturbation." Remember, I don't make the news, I just report it.

Can't wait to hear what Josh says about this one. Heh-heh! :)

Overeating--we can't talk about that. 1/3 of Americans are obese. It's true. Yes, gluttony is a seldom mentioned sin.

Good article. Makes you think. I like how he calls it a "credibility crisis." He's right, we need to be standing up for marriage as well. I think we can also throw in overeating. This has become widely accepted in our culture, thus, to some degree, it has become accepted in the church. Thanks for sharing.

Check out this article, "Divorce--The Scandal of the Evangelical Conscience." Evangelicals have often railed against homosexuality and abortion--but what about divorce, which is so prevalent amongst Christians?

Here is an article on teaching your kids to share their faith, called, "Back to School Evangelism." We often think to teach our kids about right and wrong, reading their Bibles, etc. But how often do we talk about kids sharing their faith? And they are such great evangelists! That this is left out of raising up children in the Lord goes to show how little we equate evangelism with being a follower of Jesus.

Josh, I assume that you are not a proponent of polyamory? I had to look this one up, though you can guess what it means from the word. Poly=many. Amore= love. Many loves.

Here is an article on "True Love Waits" and abstinence.
