Massive Earthquake in Chile - 122 Died

Paul Newhouse, who directs our foreign missions at High Pointe and has a daughter-in-law from Chile, sent out this message today:

"You've probably already heard that a huge earthquake hit Chile early this morning - 8.8 in Concepcion and 8.5 in Santiago.  This was 1,000 times worse than the recent one in Haiti.  We've heard from Claudia's family, who live in Santiago, and they are ok.  Please keep them and the church there in your prayers.  Many of the church members live in high rise apartments which may have received significant damage.  Will let you know when we hear more. "

When Katrina hit I was pastoring in PHX. I had ppl whose families were directly impacted to stand. Each told of who or how they were impacted. Each told of their church back home's involvement. We took a large offering and split it between the churches they mentioned. Keep it personal, relational, local and real. The network really is big enough.

Bobby, these are great suggestions. With the Chile connection in our congregation, maybe we can do something similar. I like the local, relational, and real focus.
