Has anyone read this? I just started it a little while ago. It talks about the importance of Faith, from a coach's point of view. (Gibbs was past coach of the Washington Redskins). I'm really enjoying it.
Zonda, I have not read this book, but I understand that Gibbs is a great man of faith. You might post a review here or point out the highlights of what you read.
AWESOME BOOK! I have almost finished it, had the last chapter left, but sent it with my husband so he could read it while he's gone for I was so excited about sharing it with him. Joe Gibbs portrays his experiences as a Football coach and Nascar team owner to show us the crucial importance of having complete Faith and following God's word in playing the game of Life (the most important game we will ever play), with God being our coach.
It has various inserts from such greats as Chuck Colson, Don Meredith, etc. and covers many aspects of life we deal with on a daily basis. I can't say enough good about this book, co-written with Norm Miller (InterstateBatteries. These guys knew what they were doing when they wrote this book - spreading the Gospel.... Just read it and you'll know what I'm talking about!
Joe Gibbs was a huge role model for me in my youth and even now. He was the coach who would always figure out a way to get it done in my youth. As I grew older, he was the man of faith who would share his, regardless of how successful things were going in his career. I remember a great testimony about him by Peter King (Sunday night football analyst and writer for Sports Illustrated). He talked about a conversation he had with Gibbs about the Redskins, about how the team was doing. Right before Gibbs left, Gibbs gave him a Bible, offered to pray with him, and shared his faith. I remember King writing in his blog (paraphrase) "ya know I don't know if he is right on all of this but what a wonderful guy, true to his faith." I thought it was neat that even though he wasn't sure about it all, he found the encounter an experience of grace.
Great story of Gibbs with Peter King, Bruce. DESPITE his being a REDSKINS coach all those years, I have had an admiration for his willingness to share his faith. He has used what God has given him well.
