Wow. How often it seems that my heart is distracted from God's mission in my life (and in this church) all because of the drama that is life. I'm distracted. Financial worries...Marital woes...numerous jobs...many varying tasks to perform...time with children...lost loved ones...relational tension showing up in places I've never seen it...I'm distracted.

It seems as though once you've gotten to this point of distraction, you tend to unplug (at least for a season) from some aspect of God's mission. Anyone have any wisdom on how to re-engage the power source while still being bombarded by this world and her distractions?

(I obviously understand that time with God is key...just hoping to spark a conversation)

Time with God is a key indeed. We should never let the business of this world to keep us busy in a way that we forget to spend time with our God. The Bible said never worry about tomorrow, so why worry about little things of this world. Luke 1:37, Tells us that..."There is nothing impossible with our God"
Problem with us Christians we preach prayer but not spend time in prayer. If God on earth (Christ) prayed what about us. Thank you

Jon Mark, great question. In a somewhat related issue, I often struggle with staying spiritually connected with God when troubles come upon me--particularly ministry related problems. I have dealt with a bit of an unchangeable situation over the last year, and frankly, it has driven me nuts. Sigh.

My problem is trying to solve problems on my own. I can be very persuasive through personal relationships, presentation of research, and personal testimonials of what I want to see happen. But sometimes, it does not work. Some things you have to wait on God to change. And I stink at patience.

I suppose the story of Abraham gives me hope. He was impatient, and yet the father of faith.

What helps me get back on track are reminders from my wife to pray, forcing myself to do other things, and doing things which bring joy in my life. For me, this is playing music, being with friends, learning, and spending time with my family. Ironically, the more I do these things, the better I am at being on mission, because I learn to let go, enjoy life, and trust him more.

Thanks for getting the conversation going.
