Hello All!

Just as an introduction, my name is Jon Mark Smith (not to be confused with the SMART John Mark)
I am the minister for the 6th and Adams Church of Christ in McGregor, TX (15 minutes west of Waco). Anyone who knows me can tell you about the best parts of my life...Marie, Jay, Brady & Kent. I've been married to Marie for 13 years and am humbled daily by God's little gifts in my life (namely my children).

My passions include music (esp. contemporary acappella), photography and graphic design.

By the way, just when I think the search is over...I find myself needing to continue looking. Life, ministry, relationships, family, "church"...I'm finally realizing that none of these can be mutually exclusive. At some point, each of these will suffer for the sake of the others...and that's normal. Others may not think it is okay...but it's not about them anyway.

Looking forward to being blessed as I participate here.

After last week I'm being forced to think

It's easy to NOT THINK, isn't it?

I can watch snow fall and not think about the damage that might come to the flowers.

I can drive my vehicle hard and not think about the damage that is being done to my tires.

I can preach "lazily" and not think about the "sleepers" in the pew.

I'm done "not thinking".

Michelle's adopted parents don't want her anymore...until I heard those words it was easy to "not think" about Michelle. Now Michelle is in a children's home… Continue

Commun....

Ever noticed that most words that start with C-O-M-M-U-N- - - end up being bad words? Communism...nasty word. Communicable...eeeewwwwww. And the worst of all...COMMUNICATE. Wait a sec...that's a good one, isn't it? So, why do we treat the process of communication as if it is tantamount to sin? I can't believe I just used the word "tantamount". Anyway, here's what I mean: Open dialogue about difficult and controversial subjects = ministry suicide / speaking openly about gossip - sin - etc.… Continue

The Daily Dealings

Wow. How often it seems that my heart is distracted from God's mission in my life (and in this church) all because of the drama that is life. I'm distracted. Financial worries...Marital woes...numerous jobs...many varying tasks to perform...time with children...lost loved ones...relational tension showing up in places I've never seen it...I'm distracted.

It seems as though once you've gotten to this point of distraction, you tend to unplug (at least for a season) from some aspect of… Continue

Jon Mark, it was great to see you this weekend! Thanks for coming out to the seminar. I hope that it was helpful and an encouragement to you.

Let's stay in touch on MON! Will you be going to the Tulsa workshop? Talk with you soon.

Hey, James.
Sorry haven't been around...hard to be everywhere I want to be.

John reminded me that this event was taking place...so here I come!

Things in McGregor are (just to be honest) somewhat disconnected. I am the preacher...but I am forced to work extra jobs in order to make ends meet. The people in the church are someone dissatisfied with the size of our congregation, but there is very little commitment to do anything about it. Sorry...you asked. These are wonderful people. They know how to love. Right now we are simply praying for God's movement in helping us apply that love in our local context.

Blah...blah...blah...

Looking forward to meeting you. I know this next weekend is going to be a blessing!

Grace,
JM

Hey Jon Mark. I'm glad that you are coming to the Missional Outreach Seminar. It will be great to meet you! John Dobbs is coming too, as I'm sure that you know. How are things in McGregor?

Jon Mark, this is a great place for collaboration and encouragement for outreach and mission. What are your interests in these areas? By the way, where is McGregor? I live in McKinney, a suburb of North Dallas.

Also, how do you know John Dobbs? We first met on Twitter, and then saw each other at the Tulsa workshop.

So glad that you joined!
