A Home-Mission Enthusiast
The Rev. Seth Gold Clark, who died at his home in Appleton City, Mo., on Friday, April 22, 1898, was one of the most enthusiastic and indefatigable home mission pioneers in the central West. For over fifty years incessantly active in the work he loved, he was one of the best examples of a missionary type now fast disappearing.
He was born in Delaware county, N. Y., August 13, 1817, and, after a boyhood spent on farms in New York and Ohio,…

In his new book, Planting Churches in the 21st Century, Stuart Murray begins by talking about the move that some have tried to make away from the term "church planting," as for some, this has seemed too human planned and even imperialistic. This came from the observation that…

John Piper begins his book,
Let the Nations Be Glad, with the statement, "Missions exists because worship doesn't."
In his new book, The Mission of God's People, Christopher Wright has a chapter on worship and its relation to mission. He echoes Piper, stating that "the goal of all our mission is the worship and glory of the one true living God." He then defines both God's mission and our…

Just now I was sitting down, eating a bowl of cereal, when the doorbell rang. I got up to see who it was, and I saw a very formally dressed family. Interesting, it was a white wife and an African-American husband, with a cute little 6 or 7 year old son. I could read the word "Watchtower" on the top of one of their materials, and so I knew that they were Jehovah's Witnesses.…

In his book, The Multiplying Church, Bob Roberts says this:

"I have a vision and a dream. Let's start a thousand churches over the next ten years, each one running a minimum of two thousand members, and in just ten years we will turn America upside down with the gospel! That woudl work, right? Wrong--that scenario just happened over the past ten years, and…

Today my wife and I took a road trip. The reason for the trip was to check out part of the legacy of Seth Gold Clark.
We traveled the roads that my great, great grandfather, Seth Gold Clark, traveled when he visited the churches he was pastor of in Missouri. Our first stop was Hume, MO, then we traveled to Rockville, MO, then to Appleton City, MO which was his home town and we ended our trip at Butler, MO. Below are some photos I took today.
The Presbyterian Church in…

HIDDEN TREASURE CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS
VISION
The vision of HTCHS is to raise up tomorrow's Christian leaders whose spiritual and academic backgrounds will be stable and profound. We are looking at saving the unchurched children, their parents, and the entire neighborhood. We wish to build an institution were Christian will be the watchword. An enclave were excellence would be empowered by the fear of God. We wish to take Christianity in Rivers State and beyond to another level…

I am ordained in the Association of Vineyard Churches and I am exploring beginning a new house church in Louisburg, KS.
First, let me share the problem in Louisburg and the Miami County area. Right now there are Baptist churches, a Lutheran church, Methodist churches, Assembly of God churches, Catholic and Presbyterian churches, a Cowboy Church and some non-denominational churches. Each serves the community in it's own way and does a good job of doing what it does.
For…

I received the URL of the article below on some aspects of making "church" culturally relevant. Specifically " the plan" has taken the form of a total image overhaul, where efforts are made to rebrand Christianity as hip, countercultural, "relevant" Unfortunately, the "emerging church"…

The thought
I fear that the biggest threat to my ministry will be my tongue. It is a threat because of the thoughtless things I say, and also for the things I should say but don't.

Matthew's gospel has the most extensive teaching on the kingdom of God, which he refers to primarily as the kingdom of (the) heaven(s). The central message of Jesus, of course, was that the kingdom of God, or kingdom of the heaven(s), was near-at hand--all around--in your midst. by using the plural form of heaven, the heavens, Matthew emphasized this…

Mission Alive has put out the following statistics on population growth, church decline, the fall of Christianity in the US, and the oppor

Here is the bad news:
- Between 1990 and 2000 there was a net gain of 4600 churches in the US; however, to simply maintain the pace with population growth a gain…

Whether we realize it or not all of us are walking a tight wire of some kind in our lives and the balancing act we do is always at risk given the thin nature of the "reality" we subscribe to.
Everyday, people in this hard little world fall off that wire, land
hard, and are injured in way's that can be hard to heal. The
repercussions of that fall are what we sometimes call a "crisis" which
interestingly enough is a word that's based on the Greek term…

Have you ever felt insignificant, Like a weed? Perhaps even a bit resentful at the thought of you're life being played out as a supporting role in someone else's
"big life"?
Perhaps your a frog who dreamed of being a prince...
Or maybe a plain old brick that wanted to become a great building!
The ugly duckling?

What is our mission? Our "missiology" is determined by our Christology. That is, our mission is based upon the life and ministry of Christ. In his own words, Jesus said that he came to seek and save the lost (Lk. 19:10), serve others (Mk. 10:45), and proclaim the good news (Mk. 1:38).
This mission also forms an excellent "missional outreach" strategy:
- Seeking the lost
- Serving the Community
- Sharing the Good…
