Mission requires an intense focus and selflessness

There are so many wonderful, good hearted people at our church. And this church has been known for having great children's and youth ministry--which is wonderful. I have two young daughters (age 5 and 9), and they benefit from our children's ministry. I am so glad… Continue

A Love for Scripture - Something My Mother Taught Me

As mother's day approaches, I am reminded of my mother, of course. One of the things that always stood out to me was the importance of Scripture and following God's word.

The Bible, of course, does not claim to be an ordinary book. As the word of God, the Bible claims and is inspired by God’s Holy Spirit. The…

Churches Planting Churches

A friend in ministry, Dan Bouchelle, has just announced that he is leaving his pulpit to head up Missions Resource Network, a church-planting entity that sponsors churches and church-planters world-wide.

He is writing on his blog about his "why" and I resonate with much that he is saying. Here's an excerpt:

"What we really need in North America and throughout the West is new expressions of Christian community that were not designed in the

Christendom model. We need to… Continue

Gods In It...(Pt.3)

In some ways this is the most difficult part for me to write because it tells the story of how I went from being a regular three time a week church attendee to striking out and "accidentally" establishing a ministry of my own. It's difficult because what I've got to say is critical of certain aspects of not just my church at the time but mainstream churches as a whole.… Continue

Gods In It...(Pt.2)

It was in May of '08 that they re-possessed my car, a 2003 Subaru Brat, and within a week or so I was given a car to use that had been given to my pastor at the time by one of his congregation. Losing that car was hard, but it was…

Gods In It...(Pt.1)

Note to readers: This blog is a narrative of an as of yet still unfolding story which is my life. I've included numerous links to blogs I wrote over the last four years on Yahoo 360 before it's demise which

serve as the "storyline" or Back story. I've never done a three part

piece but due to the complexity and length of the story I felt it was

necessary. I do hope that you enjoy it...

Do you see the working of the Holy Spirit in your life on a…

Missional Indians ?

I had an interesting talk with a man from Loja, Ecuador yesterday. We were discussing, without him know it, Mdna (Missional DNA). Missional, in this sense is simply living in such a way as to help others, sending the Gospel and ourselves to their turf, and demonstrating a faith that actually does what it preaches. The psychological / social make up of the Ecuadorian’s does not lend it self to helping their own kind…

Salt and Light in an Intolerant World

At its heart, in my opinion, missional theology is about being salt and light in bland and dark places. The level of intolerance in our culture is disheartening to me. It is a prime opportunity for Christ-followers of all shapes, sizes, and practices to bring the Kingdom into being. Check out this post to read more about one person's challenge to the intolerance of our… Continue

μαθητεύσατε

μαθητεύω: to make a disciple

verb, aorist, active, imperative, second person, plural

Inviting the Community into Our Fellowship - Family, Faith, and Friends

For the last two years at High Pointe, we have been actively seeking ways to serve and impact our community. This has involved many different types of service outreaches, from Habitat for Humanity to FriendSpeak to singing in the nursing home. Three of our biggest service outreaches have been our food pantry, which gave out 2000+ bags of groceries last year, our clothes closet, which clothed over 4400 families, and our outreach to Vega Elementary School, where we help mentor, clothe, feed, and… Continue

Generation X and Transformers

OK, made you look. :)

Seriously, I'm running a series on my blog this week about the ways in which Gen X has been entrusted with gifts and experiences that can resurrect and transform various parts of our broken world.

Today, I posted about how the faith of Gen X is desperately needed in churches to bring back faithful questioning of God and a departure from forms of faith that prop up… Continue

When Easter is more Easter Bunny than Easter Sunday

It is the holiest week in the Christian calendar, the culmination of 40 days of liturgical practice, spiritual discipline, soul searching, and story-telling. Today is Palm Sunday, followed by Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and finally, next Sunday, Easter. Jesus is risen.

The promise of resurrection makes Easter Sunday the holiest day of the holiest week. It is cause for celebration, and it echoes the unseen unceasing celebration around the Throne. As a Jesus…

Forget the Image Others Placed on You

Loser! Untalented! Dumb! Hot Head! Fearful.

These are words that describe some of the images people place on others. I believe each of those have been placed on me at some point in my life and the sad thing is I believed the people who placed them on me. I wore those images for most of my life and every now and then one of them pokes its ugly head out and tries to attach itself to me again.

Some of you see one of those images each time you look in the mirror or in given… Continue

Watch Your Heart

Posted at REAL Men RoCK http://realmenrock.blogspot.com

In my earlier writings I wrote about my mom leaving when I was about 3 years old, I wrote about the negative impact two teachers had on me and I wrote about being molested by a homosexual. Those were real events that left negative scars on my life. But I do not have to allow them to control my life and make me who I am.

With this post I want to begin to share the men and… Continue

Our Strengths are Made in God's Image

I'm going to make an attempt in the next few blog posts, an attempt at verbalizing a "theology of strength." Like all good theology, I'm going to start with theology proper--the investigation of God, Who He is, Who He was, and Who He will be. Woven throughout the conversation today will be an anthropology--an understanding of who we are made to be.

I Am Who I Am. I Will Be Who I Will Be.

A theology of strengths begins with a recognition that God reveals himself, even if that… Continue
